At the presentation, the name of the marque, Izera, was announced as well as prototypes of a hatchback and an SUV.

Piotr Zaremba, the president of ElectroMobility Poland, the company behind the project, said that the name comes from the Izera Mountains. The range, located on the Czech Republic-Polish border, is a perfect place for family trips, a defining characteristic of the new brand, Zaremba added.

The cars’ electric drivetrain will propel them from 0 to 100 kmph in less than eight seconds. The batteries, offered in two capacities, will provide the vehicles with a range of up to 400 km.

The premiere of the prototypes was due to take place by the end of this month but was postponed amid the COVID-19 epidemic. The presentation was held online.

The production of Polish electric cars is due to start in 2023, state news agency PAP reported.

ElectroMobility Poland was set up in 2016, with four energy companies –  PGE, Energa, Enea and Tauron – each holding a 25 percent stake.

At the end of 2018, international decision makers gathered at a UN climate conference in southern Poland adopted a Polish-drafted declaration calling on countries worldwide to increase the role of eco-friendly electric transport.

The Polish prime minister said at the time that his country aimed to pour at least EUR 3 billion into electromobility over the next 10 years.
