To compare, Belgium has 1,242 deaths per million residents since the start of the pandemic, according to new data released by the Polish health ministry this week, while Spain has 882 and Britain reports 767.
The list of countries severely hit by the coronavirus also includes Italy, with 757 deaths per million population, France with 690, and Sweden with 609, according to the Polish health ministry.
Croatia, the newest European Union member, has a slightly lower proportion of coronavirus deaths than Poland, at 264 per million residents, while Austria has 209 and Poland's western neighbor Germany reports 154, the new data found.
Meanwhile, Poland's northeastern neighbor Lithuania is the European country least affected by the pandemic among those listed by the Polish health ministry, with 105 coronavirus-related deaths per million population, seven less than Greece.
Poland on Wednesday reported 19,883 fresh coronavirus infections and a record 603 new deaths, its worst daily toll since the start of the pandemic.
A total of 772,823 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Poland since the pandemic began, and 11,451 have died in connection with the COVID-19 respiratory disease so far, public health officials announced on Wednesday.
On Saturday, November 14, the country reported its second-highest daily toll of 548 deaths related to the coronavirus.
On Saturday, November 7, the Polish health ministry reported a record 27,875 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country in early March.
Poland in early June reported a coronavirus death rate of 31 per million population.
