In an interview with Radio Poland, Jonathan Luxmoore, a prominent writer and broadcaster on religious affairs in Poland and Central Europe, says Wyszyński, who was Poland's top Catholic churchman for over three decades, “helped to steer the Polish Church through communism right up to the Solidarity uprising of 1980-1981.”

Luxmoore adds that Sunday’s ceremony, coming as it does at a difficult time for the Polish Church, “will serve as a reminder for the skeptical, doubtful and in some cases hostile Poles of the some of the great and undeniable achievements of the Polish Church in defending human rights and Poland’s national identity.”
