The new, highly contagious variant was confirmed by health authorities in samples collected from children and adults linked to "two previously reported outbreaks" in the capital Warsaw and in the coastal city of Gdańsk, health ministry spokesman Wojciech Andrusiewicz told the media.
The Polish health ministry reported last week that "a 3-year-old girl living in Warsaw" and "a 7-year-old girl from Gdańsk" tested positive for omicron.
Poland last Thursday reported its first case of omicron in a 30-year-old woman from the southern African country of Lesotho.
Public health authorities on Thursday reported 17,156 new coronavirus infections and 616 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 4,017,420 and fatalities to 93,445.
A range of new coronavirus restrictions took effect across the country last week as it seeks to fend off the new, highly transmissible omicron variant.
The first Polish citizen diagnosed with omicron was a teenager who tested positive at the start of last week during a trip to China, according to a spokesman for the Polish health ministry.
