Some 250 volunteers are raising money at Powązki, the oldest cemetery in Warsaw, for the renovation of historic tombstones and chapels on October 29 and 30 as well as November 1, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Among the famous faces are actors Maja Komorowska, Olgierd Łukaszewicz and Artur Barciś, the news agency said.
Each volunteer has an official armband and a collecting tin.
Also, a special collection box has been mounted in the cemetery's Avenue of Catacombs at the tomb of music critic and author Jerzy Waldorff, the founder of the fundraising campaign.
Fundraising drives have been held at the cemetery since 1974. Thanks to the money collected, over 1,500 tombstones and chapels have been renovated so far, according to IAR.
On All Saints' Day on November 1 and All Souls' Day on November 2, Poles traditionally flock to family graves to lay flowers and light candles.
