It commemorates the arrival of the Three Wise Men in Bethlehem to pay tribute to Jesus, 12 days after his birth.
In many countries, including Poland, the Feast of the Epiphany is known as Three Kings' Day. It has been a public holiday in Poland since 2011, after a break of over five decades, and is celebrated with colourful processions.
The day also marks the beginning of the Carnival season, which lasts until the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.
