The five babies were welcomed into the world at the city’s University Hospital through a caesarean section in the 28th week of pregnancy, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

The three girls and two boys are each some 40 centimetres tall and weigh between 710 and 1,400 grams, according to doctors.

Born to a Polish mother and a British father, they have been named Elizabeth May, Evangeline Rose, Arianna Daisy, Charles Patrick, and Henry James, the PAP news agency reported.

The Kraków University Hospital announced the birth of the quintuplets on its Facebook, saying: “Thanks to the efforts of the Obstetrics and Perinatology Ward, which, led by Prof. Hubert Huras, had looked after the pregnant mother for the past 10 weeks or so, we welcomed quintuplets into the world for the second time on Sunday, shortly after 2 p.m.

The hospital added: “The children and the mother are feeling well as the UK-born father and seven siblings can’t wait to welcome them home!”

Quintuplets are born once in 52 million pregnancies, officials also said.
