New data from the country’s 2021 census show that the number of British, American and Irish nationals living in Poland has increased considerably over the past decade, state news agency PAP reported this week.

The number of those identifying as British or Irish rose fivefold from 2011 to 2021, to around 49,000 and 10,000 respectively, it said, citing data from Poland’s statistics office.

Meanwhile, English is now the second most commonly spoken language in the country, after Polish, according to the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency.

Overall, Poland’s 2021 census revealed substantial changes in the country’s ethnic and linguistic identity, the PAP news agency reported.
