The ceremony took place at the presidential palace in Warsaw on Thursday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki accepted the resignation of Adam Niedzielski, who had been Poland’s minister for health since August 2020.

Morawiecki said at the time that he would offer the role to Katarzyna Sójka, an internist and MP with the ruling Law and Justice party.

After officially appointing the new health minister on Thursday, the president said that as an internist, she understood the needs of the healthcare system.

Duda added that the national health service had withstood the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic and now faced new challenges.

He stated: “The health protection system faces many challenges. It must be further constructed and developed. The rising expenditures must be spent wisely.”

Minister Sójka invited healthcare professionals and managers and the entire healthcare community to “work together for the benefit of the patients,” the PAP news agency reported.
