So far, a total of 157 people have been infected with the Legionella bacteria across Poland's southeastern Podkarpackie region, data showed.

Officials emphasized that all the deceased had underlying health conditions. The victims were nine men and nine women, aged from 53 to 98, according to reports.

All the infected individuals were hospitalized in facilities across the southeastern city of Rzeszów and surrounding areas. The largest concentrations of patients were in Rzeszów, accounting for 105 cases, followed by 35 in Rzeszów County, Polish state news agency PAP reported. Smaller numbers were reported in various other districts, including Dębica and Łańcut.

Authorities said they were continually conducting epidemiological investigations to determine the source of the outbreak.
