The portal, innowacje.opi.org.pl, was rolled out on September 11 by the state-run National Information Processing Institute (Ośrodek Przetwarzania Informacji, OPI).

The website (available in Polish and English) acts as a hub, consolidating information on innovative publications, scientific projects, expert achievements in various fields, patents, research equipment, and financing – including free reports and analyses. The initiative came at the behest of the Ministry of Education and Science (Ministerstwo Edukacji i Nauki, MEiN.)

"OPI is the main creator and operator of information systems collecting data about Polish science and higher education. The scope of information in these systems is vast, which can be overwhelming. By choosing the innowacje.opi.org.pl address, users get access to a comprehensive database of innovative actions arranged in a simple and logical manner," said Dr Jarosław Protasiewicz, Director of OPI.

"We have access to billions of pieces of information, but selecting the most pertinent, especially those concerning innovation in a specific field, isn't always easy. The new OPI portal systematically categorizes innovative actions, enabling users to swiftly access reliable data they need," commented Deputy Minister Wojciech Murdzek, the government's plenipotentiary for the reform of research institutes functioning within MEiN.

Online courses from the NAVOICA platform are also accessible from the portal and references to other OPI systems like RAD-on, the Polish Scientific Bibliography (Polska Bibliografia Naukowa), Financial Stream Services (Obsługa Strumieni Finansowania), and the Medical Research Agency system are also integrated.

Among the publications available is a report titled "National Innovation System: Opportunities and Challenges". This highlights barriers to innovation development in Poland, such as scattered knowledge and information, gaps in domain knowledge, education and experience, and limited accessibility to data and IT tools. The OPI believes the portal can help overcome these barriers.

The portal is free to use for all visitors.
