In elections to the lower house, the Sejm, six "electoral committees" have registered lists in all 41 constituencies: Law and Justice, Civic Coalition, New Left, Third Way, Confederation, and Non-Partisan Local Government Activists, according to Poland’s PAP news agency.

Seven other political groupings have also registered their lists, but only in some constituencies.

In total, 6,655 candidates, including 2,949 women, are running for parliamentary seats, PAP reported.

The New Left has the highest number of female candidates, at 452, compared with 460 men.

The Civic Coalition, the largest opposition grouping, comes second with 439 women and 480 men on its lists.

Meanwhile, the governing conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party has 370 women and 548 men running for lower-house seats.

The ruling party, which is seeking a third term in power, appears to be running ahead of an opposition divided into separate blocs, according to the latest polls.

The party with the fewest female candidates is the far-right Confederation, at 364 vs. 550 men.

Meanwhile, in the upper-house elections, 360 candidates have been registered.

In February, major opposition groupings forged an electoral alliance dubbed the 2023 Senate Pact 2023, as part of which they agreed to back one common candidate in each constituency.

In the summer, the leaders of Poland’s opposition parties reaffirmed they would contest the Senate elections together in a bid to retain control of the upper house of parliament.

Compared to the lower-house elections, a significantly lower percentage of women are vying for Senate seats, 69 vs. 291 men.

In August, Poland's lawmakers approved a plan to combine parliamentary elections with a nationwide referendum on issues including illegal migration.
