Polish, US military bands embark on joint tour

"Stronger Together" serves as the motto for a concert tour featuring the US Air Forces in Europe Band and the Polish Military Band from the southern city of Bytom.

The tour kicks off on Tuesday in Brzeg Dolny, southwestern Poland.

The programme includes popular American standards such as El Cumbanchero, Horse and Buggy and Have You Met Miss Jones? alongside the prewar Polish tango Oh, Donna Clara and contemporary pop music hits.

US Air Forces in Europe Band conductor Maj. Rafael Toro has told the media: ”We are performing together again to celebrate the US-Polish friendship, highlight a strong trans-Atlantic alliance and promote our common values of democracy, freedom and adherence to international principles that guarantee peace.”

He added: ”Through participating in this bilateral project, we want to strengthen our partnership within NATO and demonstrate cooperation using an universal language of music. It is a form of communication that helps build a long-lasting friendship.”

The concert in Dolny Brzeg will be followed by performances in Lublin (October 26), Przemyśl (October 27) and Rzeszów (October 28).

The two bands, comprised of more than 50 musicians, are conducted by Toro and Polish Army Capt. Krystian Siwek.
