The influential Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (KRASP) has made a significant appeal for the establishment of a robust, separate ministry dedicated solely to science and higher education. This was announced in a press statement released by KRASP’s office.

In a resolution passed on October 27 during KRASP’s Plenary Assembly in Łódź, the body stressed the essential role of the academic community in national economic development and in boosting Poland’s international standing. “The potential of the academic community is an indispensable backbone for the development of the national economy and building a high international position of our country,” the resolution emphasized.

KRASP is calling for equipping the new ministry with powerful financial tools, to foster the development of scientific research and implementation of its outcomes within the economy. This indicates KRASP’s vision of a ministry that not only oversees educational policies but also actively contributes to bridging academia with industry and the broader economy.

This appeal comes amidst other similar calls from notable figures in the Polish scientific community, including the president of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the chairman of the Main Council of Science and Higher Education. They, too, have recommended the establishment of two distinct ministries, one focused on science and higher education and another on broader education, replacing the existing Ministry of Education and Science.

KRASP is a substantial body founded in 1997. It consists of 109 member institutions, including universities and higher education institutions whihc have the right to award doctoral degrees in at least one scientific discipline. KRASP’s voice is quite vital in Poland’s educational policymaking.
