Krzysztof Szczerski made the statement in New York on Sunday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Poland's envoy to the UN visited the Polish-American Museum in Long Island to donate the uniform of Polish General Adam Joks, who until recently served as deputy commanding officer of the US Army V Corps.

The visit was part of Poland's Independence Day celebrations.

The US Army V Corps, America's forward deployed corps, is permanently headquartered in Poznań, western Poland, under a decision by President Joe Biden.

After Sunday's ceremony, Szczerski told the PAP news agency that Joks' spell as deputy commander of the US Army V Corps symbolised "the growing Polish-American cooperation in NATO."

He said: "Today, Poland's security rests on two pillars, the strength of the Polish army and the strength of the North-Atlantic Alliance."

Szczerski added that the stationing of the US Army V Corps in Poland "shows our country's key role in ensuring the security of the whole region and in hosting US forces."

The move was intended to "ensure resistance to Moscow's imperial ambitions," amid the Kremlin's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, and represents "an integral part of the US security architecture," according to Szczerski.

The Polish UN ambassador noted that another high-ranking Polish officer, Gen. Maciej Jabłoński, took over from Joks in the summer as deputy commanding officer of the US Army V Corps, the PAP news agency reported.

Monday is day 628 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
