Drawing on World Health Organization (WHO) data, Ślęzak noted that approximately 1.3 million people globally lose their lives in road accidents each year, with an additional 20 to 50 million suffering injuries, many leading to disabilities.

He emphasized that road accidents are the leading cause of death for individuals aged 5-29, with more than half of all fatalities being vulnerable road users.

Ślęzak also underscored the broader societal responsibility to improve road safety, mentioning various events like conferences, seminars, and educational campaigns organized around this day.

These initiatives are intended to raise awareness about the commonness of road accidents and the importance of preventive measures, as well as provide an opportunity for individuals to reflect on their behavior in traffic and promote a culture of responsibility and respect among all road users.
