The poll, released on Wednesday, was commissioned by financial services firm Mastercard, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Two-thirds of respondents said they would spend up to PLN 1,000 (EUR 230) on Christmas gifts for their loved ones.

Meanwhile, 17 percent of those polled declared they would allocate more than EUR 230 for festive presents, according to Mastercard.

The most popular choices for Christmas gifts include clothes, mentioned by 45 percent of respondents, toys (41 percent), and books (39 percent).

Meanwhile, 29 percent of those surveyed said they would purchase presents connected with their loved ones' hobbies; 17 percent plan to buy tickets for various events, and 12 percent mentioned gifts linked to experiences such as a restaurant outing, Mastercard said.

The survey was carried out in November through computer-assisted web interviews with 1,071 bank customers aged 18 to 60, the PAP news agency reported.
