Connecting Karowa Street in Powiśle with Okrzei Street in Praga, the bridge was inaugurated by Warsaw's Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, who hailed it as "a beautiful structure and a new landmark of Warsaw."
In a safety-focused design decision, the bridge does not feature a dedicated bicycle lane. Trzaskowski explained that avoiding the segregation of pedestrian and bicycle traffic would enhance safety, particularly considering the significant dips at both ends of the bridge.
The construction, managed by Budimex with a design from Schuessler Plan Engineers studio, cost approximately PLN 120 million.
With a design lifespan of a century, the 502-meter-long steel structure drew comparisons to London's Millennium Bridge. Prior to opening, it underwent rigorous load testing, successfully supporting 22 water tanks filled with a combined 21,000 liters, demonstrating its capability to accommodate emergency vehicles up to 3.5 tons.
