Israeli ambassador to Poland Yacov Livne announced on social media on Saturday that  "one of the hostages rescued today in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli Defence Forces is Almog Meir Jan, a citizen of Israel and Poland."

Polish Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement on Saturday: "We express our joy at the release of the four Israeli hostages held since 7 October."

"Particularly noteworthy is the fact that in the group of freed is an Israeli with Polish citizenship," the ministry also said.

Earlier this week, the Polish Foreign Ministry has confirmed that two of the four hostages recently killed by Hamas were Polish citizens.

This announcement follows the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmation on Monday of the deaths of four Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

According to a United Nations report, the civilian toll in the Strip is catastrophic, with over 35,000 deaths, including a significant proportion of women and children. The UN speculates that the actual death toll might be higher, with roughly 10,000 Gazans believed still buried under rubble.

To date, the IDF has confirmed the deaths of 41 hostages out of the 120 still held by Hamas.
