Maja and Nikodem: most popular baby names in Poland

Maja was the most popular name given to baby girls in Poland in the first half of this year, while Nikodem was the top choice for boys, officials have said.

Maja has edged out Zofia as the most popular name given to baby girls in Poland. Meanwhile, Nikodem remains the top pick for boys.

Next on the list for girls were Zofia and Zuzanna, while Jan and Aleksander made up the rest of the top three for boys, according to Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs.

Other girl names popular in Poland in the first six months of 2024 were Hanna, Laura and Julia, while Antoni, Franciszek and Leon were among popular picks for boys.

A year earlier, Zofia was the No. 1 name for girls, while Zuzanna was runner-up. Maja was in fifth place.

Meanwhile, Nikodem remains the most popular name for Polish boys, unchanged from last year.
