The dramatic incident, captured on video, has taken the Internet by storm.
Kalinowski, who has lived in the UK for a decade and works as a warehouseman, was ambushed while riding home from work. "They were driving the opposite way and eyed my moped," Kalinowski recalled.
The gang, driving a vehicle without license plates, turned around and began following him. One of them brandished a hammer.
But the Pole was no ordinary victim. As the gang pushed him off his bike, Kalinowski reached into his backpack and pulled out a can of special spray he kept for self-defense.
Kalinowski unleashed his spray, which contained a special dye, marking the attackers with a telltale red stain. Adding to the chaos, Kalinowski hurled a traditional barrage of Polish curses at his would-be robbers, who then promptly escaped the scene.
The very next day, Kalinowski was summoned by the police to compare the paint on the suspects' clothing with his spray—a match that helped secure their arrest.
