Letter from Poland - A foreigner reads the Polish press/Gazeta Wyborcza 1

This week's Letter begins a series of audio shorts, "A foreigner reads the Polish press". We start with 2 Letters devoted to the by now classic liberal-left paper Gazeta Wyborcza. 

Adam Michnik, the co-founder and fist editor-in-chief of Wyborcza has been much criticised in Poland, for instance for his forgiveness of leading communists. Here Michnik (a leading anti-communist dissident) is with Wojciech Jaruzelski, the last First Secretary of the Communist Party.

While the Letter makes pointed criticisms of Gazeta Wyborcza, the overall conclusion is that the paper is much better than most Poles believe, bearing comparison with the best outlets in the world.
