Here’s a brief summary of the 20 words that have been selected as finalists, which can be voted on in the online poll until November 30, 2024.
The results of the competition are scheduled to be announced in early December. Additionally, a Jury Award will be given for the most interesting expression along with its definition.
- Aura: Refers to a person's overall energy or vibe that influences how others perceive them. Positive traits enhance one's "aura," while negative actions can lower it.
- Azbest: A humorous reference from memes about "pouring asbestos," often linked to low-quality, environmentally harmful development projects, as well as a critique of overpriced, poor-quality buildings.
- Bambik: A mocking term for someone inexperienced, naive, or incompetent, originally associated with "newbies" in the game Fortnite.
- Brainrot: Used to describe low-quality content, especially on TikTok, created by young people who are constantly connected to social media, often without much meaning or depth.
- Brat: Derived from a song title, this term refers to someone rebellious, confident, and independent, often challenging societal expectations.
- Cringe: Refers to something awkward, embarrassing, or uncomfortable, with the verb "to cringe" meaning to feel repulsed by something awkward.
- Czemó: A playful variation of the Polish word 'czemu' ('why'), used primarily by gamers, especially in TikTok videos, to express surprise or confusion.
- Delulu: A term used for someone who is obsessed or detached from reality, typically used to describe people fixated on an idea or person to an unhealthy degree.
- Fe!n/Fein/Fin: Refers to someone addicted to something or obsessively wanting something, often derived from Travis Scott's song "fiend," which means someone overtaken by an obsession.
- Fr/FR: Abbreviation for "for real," expressing genuine agreement or affirmation, often in written communication.
- Glamur/Glamour: Initially meaning luxury and elegance, now it often refers to a TikTok trend involving leopard print clothing and the song "Glamour."
- GOAT: Stands for "Greatest of All Time," used to describe someone who is exceptional, often in sports or entertainment.
- Oi oi oi baka: A challenge from the anime world where people shout "oi oi oi baka" (meaning "idiot") in public, often as a dare or prank.
- Oporowo: Describes doing something with full intensity or enthusiasm, akin to pushing to the limit.
- Rizz: Refers to charisma, especially in the context of attractiveness or charm, particularly when it comes to dating or impressing others.
- Sigma: Describes a confident, self-reliant individual who does not follow the crowd, often called the "lone wolf."
- Skibidi: A term with no fixed meaning, often used in connection with viral trends or funny, absurd situations. It became popular through a viral TikTok song.
- Slay: Originally meaning "to defeat," it now refers to doing something excellently or impressively, especially in terms of appearance or performance.
- Womp womp: An expression used to signal disappointment or lack of interest, similar to saying "too bad" or "that's unfortunate."
- Yapping: Refers to talking excessively or needlessly, often in a nagging or repetitive manner, similar to the sound of a dog barking.
