This iconic image was taken on December 13, 1981, the first day of Martial Law in Warsaw, during the screening of Francis Ford Coppola's film "Apocalypse Now."
The photograph has been donated by Niedenthal along with four-year-old twins Lena and Filip Sosnowski, who benefited from medical equipment purchased by WOŚP during their hospital treatment.
Niedenthal, who has lived in Poland for many years, shared the challenging circumstances surrounding the creation of the photograph and the process of smuggling the negatives out of the country during Martial Law.
This year’s WOŚP auction focuses on children's health with the slogan "We Play for Health!", and the funds raised will be allocated to pediatric hematology and oncology.
The 33rd WOŚP Finale will take place on January 26, featuring a variety of events aimed at raising money for comprehensive medical support.
Ahead of its 33rd annual fundraiser, the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP) hosted a press conference to showcase exclusive items that will be up for bids in an upcoming charity auction. Photo: PAP/Paweł Supernak
