Ewa Wrzosek, who had overseen Skrzypek’s testimony in a case related to the controversial Srebrna development project, denied any wrongdoing and rejected claims that her questioning contributed to Skrzypek’s sudden death three days later from a heart attack.
Barbara Skrzypek, 66, was interrogated on March 12 and suffered a fatal heart attack on March 15, as confirmed by an autopsy.
Wrzosek emphasized that the interrogation followed standard procedures and that no objections had been raised by Skrzypek’s legal representative. She also pointed out that no formal complaints were filed regarding the absence of legal representation during the questioning.
PiS members, including Kaczyński, have linked Skrzypek's death to the stress of the questioning and the exclusion of her lawyer.
However, Wrzosek defended her decision, explaining that under Polish law, prosecutors can decide to exclude legal counsel during preliminary investigations when it is deemed unnecessary to protect the interests of a non-party witness.
The investigation into Skrzypek’s death continues under the supervision of Poland's National Prosecutor's Office, amid ongoing political tensions. Critics from PiS have questioned Wrzosek’s impartiality due to her past involvement in opposition-aligned cases.
