The Polish duo lost 4-6, 1-6 to American Hayley Carter and Belgium's Sander Gillé in their second-round match in Melbourne on Tuesday.

The defeat comes after Świątek on Sunday bowed out of the women's singles competition at the Australian Open, where she was stopped in the fourth round by Romania’s Simona Halep. The rising Polish tennis star was outplayed 6-3, 1-6, 4-6.

Meanwhile, Kubot was on Monday knocked out of the third round of the men’s doubles, in which he partnered with Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands.

Another Pole, Hubert Hurkacz, was eliminated from the men's singles in Melbourne after losing to Sweden's Mikael Ymer 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 5-7, 3-6 in the first round last Tuesday.

A day earlier, Poland's Kamil Majchrzak was defeated 2-6, 4-6, 3-6 by Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanović in the first round of the men's singles.

The 2021 Australian Open runs until February 21.
