Lewandowski, who plays for German champions Bayern Munich, received 356 of the 563 votes cast by German sports journalists, a resounding victory over second-placed Thomas Müller (41 votes) and third-placed Erling Haaland (38).

"It's a source of great pride and joy for me because it's rare for someone to win the title of Footballer of the Year in Germany twice in a row," Lewandowski said, as quoted on the official website of his club.

The title of Footballer of the Year (Fußballer des Jahres) is awarded every year by leading German sports magazine Kicker.

The Polish star striker last season bagged 41 goals in the German Bundesliga, thus breaking a long-standing league record by former Bayern great Gerd Müller.
