“We want this match to be our joint appeal for peace,” the Polish club has said in a statement on its website.
Legia Warsaw have called on businesses to buy blocks of tickets for their staff “who will invite their friends from Ukraine and take part in the event together.”
Tickets cost from PLN 30 (EUR 6.40) to PLN 300 (EUR 64), with the option to pay more to support the cause.
Proceeds from attendance, a donation collection and special auctions will go towards help for Ukraine’s internal refugees, the Polish club said.
The "match for peace" kicks off at 8:30 p.m. Warsaw time.
“Our thoughts on Tuesday night will be especially with those whose reality has collapsed due to war, forcing them to leave their family homes,” Legia said in a statement.
Tuesday's game will be the first in a series of encounters between Dynamo Kyiv and Europe’s top clubs, “designed to show the world that Ukrainians are seeking peace and freedom while defending their country against the Russian aggressor,” Poland's PAP news agency reported.
Dynamo is set to play Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, France’s Paris Saint-Germain, Spain’s Barcelona, Italy’s AC Milan, Portugal’s Benfica, and Ajax from the Netherlands, among other teams.
Ukraine’s football season was suspended on February 25, a day after the Russian invasion began.
