In 1977, the Polish Olympic Committee established a special Fair Play Commission that every year awards prizes to players, coaches, activists, fans and sports organizations, honoring their efforts in promoting sportsmanship.

Every year, the Fair Play Award is given out in four categories.

The Honorary Fair Play Statuette, awarded to outstanding personalities of the Olympic movement for the promotion of fair play, went to the Polish Anti-Doping Agency this year.

Due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and "the exceptionally difficult situation beyond Poland's eastern border," the Polish Olympic Committee and the Fair Play Club of the Polish Olympic Committee said they decided to grant additional awards "for special attitude and help to Ukraine and its athletes in a difficult time of war."

These special awards went to some of the most famous and recognizable Polish athletes, among them tennis players Iga Świątek and Hubert Hurkacz, soccer star Robert Lewandowski, and ski jumper Kamil Stoch, as well as the president of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee, Sergey Bubka.

Klaudiusz Madeja went to the awards ceremony in Warsaw to find out more.
