Women's boxing: Three European medals for Poles in Montenegro

Poland won three silver medals at the 2022 European Women's Boxing Championships, which ended in Budva, Montenegro at the weekend.

Poland's Aneta Rygielska took the silver in the under-66 kg category after losing to Stefanie von Berge of Germany in the gold medal bout, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Meanwhile, countrywoman Elżbieta Wójcik finished runner-up in the under-75 kg, behind Ireland's gold medal winner Aoife O'Rourke.

Martyna Jancelewicz claimed the silver for Poland in the under-81 kg category after losing the gold to Lithuania's Gabriele Stonkute in a 2-3 split decision on Saturday.

The last time Polish female boxers won a European gold was when Karolina Michalczuk triumphed at the 2009 European Women's Boxing Championships in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
