Warsaw's Museum of Sports and Tourism turns 70

The Museum of Sports and Tourism in Warsaw is celebrating its 70th year in existence.

The institution is one of the oldest museums of its kind in Europe, operating since 1952.

Its permanent exhibition, entitled The History of Polish Sport and the Olympic Movement, shows the history of sports from ancient Greece through to the first modern Olympic Games and on to the present day.

"Over the seven decades of its existence, the museum has collected a lot of interesting exhibits, with many of them given to the museum by famous athletes," Marta Marek from the museum's research department told Radio Poland's Danuta Isler.

"One of the most important and valuable is the collection oOlympic medals," Marek said during a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the museum's founding.
