The 27-year-old Pole beat Japan's Shintaro Mochizuki 4-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 in their first-round men's singles match at the Grand Slam tournament in the French capital on Sunday.
Hurkacz, who is eighth in the world ranking, next takes on American world No. 68 Brandon Nakashima for a place in the third round.
On the women's side, Poland’s world No. 1 Iga Świątek and countrywoman Magda Linette are scheduled to play their first-round matches in Paris on Monday.
Świątek won the French Open in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
The 2024 French Open kicked off on Sunday and runs until June 9.
