The Polish world No. 9 saw off the 4th-ranked Russian-born German 7-6, 6-4 in the semifinals of the men's singles on Saturday.

The fifth-seeded Pole will face the winner of the other semifinal between Italy's world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and China's Zhang Zhizhen in the championship match on Sunday.

Hurkacz defeated Italian Flavio Cobolli, 7-5, 7-6, Australian qualifier James Duckworth, 7-6 , 6-4, and American Marcos Giron earlier in the tournament.

The 27-year-old Pole is set to climb to at least No. 7 in the world, a new career-high, when the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) updates its rankings on Monday, according to reports.

Last year, Hurkacz reached the second round of the Halle Open, where he lost to Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands 3-6, 6-1, 6-7.

Two years ago, the Polish player won the tournament in Halle.
