The 27-year-old Pole, ranked ninth in the world, played some of his best tennis but eventually succumbed to the Italian ace in two tie-breaks, 6-7, 6-7, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
In a post-match comment, Sinner complimented Hurkacz on his performance, saying that "it was a tough match against Hubi," who has one of the best serves in the game and delivered some incredible play on Sunday.
Sinner said he prevailed over his Polish opponent because he served well throughout the match and managed to win key points "in the important moments."

While Hurkacz and Sinner are fierce rivals when playing on the opposite sides of the net, they have occasionally joined forces as doubles partners. They also partnered in the doubles at this year's Halle Open, but were eliminated early in the tournament.
Despite his loss in Sunday's championship match, Hurkacz is expected to climb to a career-high world No. 7 when the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) updates its rankings on Monday.
Last year, the Polish player reached the second round of the Halle Open, where he lost to Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands 3-6, 6-1, 6-7.
Two years ago, Hurkacz won the tournament in Halle.
