The 27-year-old Pole on Tuesday saw off the Moldovan qualifier 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the men's singles at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament in the British capital.
Hurkacz, who is currently ranked world No. 7 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), will next face the winner between France's Arthur Fils and Switzerland's Dominik Stricker.
The Polish player, who is coached by American Craig Boynton, last month reached the final of the Halle Open grass-court tournament in Germany, where he was edged out by Italy's world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
Hurkacz is playing for his ninth career singles title and his first Grand Slam win in London.
