According to Associated Press, this investigation, initiated by a House Committee on China, seeks to explore potential doping conspiracies under the Rodchenkov Anti-Doping Act, a U.S. federal law.

The investigation gains prominence as 11 of these swimmers, who tested positive for a banned substance yet faced no suspensions, are set to compete in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

The Chinese swimmers, including Olympic gold medalists Zhang Yufei and Wang Shun, tested positive for trimetazidine, a banned heart medication.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accepted the Chinese authorities' explanation of food contamination at a hotel as the cause, which allowed the athletes to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

This decision has since sparked controversy, leading to a call for an investigation and raising concerns about the effectiveness and transparency of WADA.

The case has drawn comparisons to past state-sponsored doping scandals, notably Russia's, and highlights ongoing debates about the integrity of global anti-doping efforts.
