Cycling: 81st Tour de Pologne set to start next month

This year’s Tour de Pologne, Poland’s largest cycling race, will be 1,050 km long and take place from August 12 to 18, organizers have said.

The seven-stage race will start in the southwestern city of Wrocław and end in Kraków, in the south of the country, race director Czesław Lang, a former professional cyclist, said on Wednesday.

The first leg of the annual race will see cyclists cover a 159.3 km route starting in Wrocław and ending in the popular mountain resort of Karpacz.

The remaining stages of the 81st Tour de Pologne will take riders through other picturesque towns in the south of Poland, including the spa town of Duszniki-Zdrój and Prudnik near the border with the Czech Republic.

The race will also pass through the southern industrial city of Katowice and Wadowice, the hometown of the late Pope John Paul II, before it concludes in the historic city of Kraków.

Slovenian rider Matej Mohorič won last year's Tour de Pologne, which attracted more than 160 cyclists from 24 teams based in various countries.
