3x3 basketball: Poland beat China 22-17 at Paris Olympics

Poland defeated China 22-17 in their fourth game at the Olympic men's 3x3 basketball tournament in Paris on Thursday.

The win keeps the Poles' hopes alive for advancing to the knockout stage of the tournament through playoffs, Polish state news agency PAP reported. 

Przemysław Zamojski scored nine points for Poland, Filip Matczak added five, and Adrian Bogucki and Michał Sokołowski each finished with four.

Earlier in the day, Poland were beaten by Latvia 12-21 in their third match of the Olympic competition.

The Polish team lost 19-21 to France in its opening game of the tournament and stunned Team USA 19-17 in their second game in Paris.

After four rounds of matches, Poland sit sixth in pool play, with two wins and two losses, behind Latvia, Serbia, France, Lithuania and the Netherlands.

The Polish team is set to take on the Netherlands on Friday morning, followed by a clash with six-time world champions Serbia late in the day.

3x3 basketball is a variation of the game played three a side on one basketball hoop.

The 2024 Games mark the second Olympics 3x3 basketball is recognised as an official event.

It made its debut as an Olympic sport at the Tokyo Games, which were held in Japan from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

Poland made an early exit from the Olympic tournament in Tokyo after losing five games and winning just two.
