The Poles, managed by Italian coach Stefano Lavarini, started strong, beating Japan 3-1 in their opening game and crushing Kenya 3-0 in their second match in the French capital.

They suffered an inconsequential 0-3 defeat against Brazil in their final preliminary-round fixture, having already secured a spot in the quarterfinals.

The Polish team's appearance in Paris marked its comeback to Olympic action after a 16-year hiatus.

Meanwhile, the Polish men's volleyball team defeated Slovenia 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Olympic tournament and will face Team USA for a place in the gold-medal match in Paris on Wednesday.
