Swimming gold for Poland at Paris Paralympics

The 24-year-old on Thursday secured victory in the men's 100 metres backstroke Class S1 event for competitors with spinal cord injuries, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Polish athletes are competing in 15 sports at the Games, including swimming, para-athletics, table tennis, weightlifting and kayaking.

contingent of 84 athletes, comprising 43 men and 41 women, is representing Poland at the event.

More than 4,400 competitors from around the world are taking part in this global multi-sport event, which celebrates the sporting talent of athletes with various impairments.

Team Poland won 24 medals, seven gold, six silver and 11 bronze, and finished 17th in the overall medal standings at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.

Poland won 39 medals and finished 10th in the medals table at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Public broadcaster Polish Radio is a media partner of the Polish team for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Summer Games, which started on August 28 and run until September 8.

The Paralympics follow the 2024 Paris Olympics, which the French capital hosted from July 26 to August 11.
