Sport.pl inquired with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regarding the decision on the appeal for the Polish tennis player, who was suspended in October.

WADA spokesperson James Fitzgerald explained that WADA has 21 days after the expiration of POLADA’s appeal deadline to make a decision.

Michał Rynkowski from the Polish Anti-Doping Agency (POLADA) confirmed that the deadline for filing an appeal is December 19.

If POLADA decides not to appeal, WADA will have until January 9, 2025, to decide whether to challenge the verdict. If neither organization files an appeal, the doping case against Iga Świątek will be closed, and she will focus on her sports career.

Iga Świątek was given a one-month suspension following a positive anti-doping test, but it was determined that her fault was minimal, and the substance in her system came from a contaminated medication.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) ruled that there was no significant fault on the part of the Polish tennis player.

If neither organization appeals, the case will be closed, and Iga Świątek will be free to continue competing.

Before Iga Świątek hits the court to play in the World Tennis League from December 19-22 in Abu Dhabi, she is enjoying some relaxation in the beautiful surroundings of the Maldives, sharing her time there on Instagram.
