While Barcelona dominated the match in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, Szczęsny was kept busy, making several key saves to deny Athletic's chances, news outlets reported.
The 34-year-old also kept a clean sheet in his debut for the Spanish giants during their 4-0 Copa del Rey victory over fourth-tier Barbastro on January 4.
Previously with Arsenal and Juventus, Szczęsny joined Barcelona in early October as a replacement for Marc-André ter Stegen, the German goalkeeper sidelined for the season due to a knee injury.
Barcelona will face their arch-rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday.
