Polish tennis ace Iga Świątek cruised into the quarterfinals of the Australian Open with a commanding 6–0, 6–1 victory over Germany’s Eva Lys in the round of 16 in Melbourne.

Świątek faced little resistance from Lys, a surprising contender in the tournament who entered as a "lucky loser."

The German, who has Ukrainian roots, had two break points in the opening game of the first set, but Świątek defended her serve and quickly took control. The 23-year-old claimed the first set in just 24 minutes, leaving Lys with no answers to her precision and power.

The second set was slightly more competitive, but Lys managed to win only one game on her serve. The sixth game of the set, lasting just 12 minutes, saw Świątek capitalize on her fourth break point to seize the advantage. Moments later, the world No. 2 comfortably served out the match, securing her spot in the final eight after just 59 minutes on the court.

Świątek’s impressive form in Melbourne continues. Earlier rounds saw her defeat Czech player Katerina Siniaková (6–3, 6–4), Slovak Rebecca Šramková (6–0, 6–2), and Britain’s Emma Raducanu (6–1, 6–0).

Across four matches, Świątek has spent a total of four hours and 30 minutes on the court, underlining her efficiency and dominance in this year’s tournament

Good news for Iga Świątek: WADA confirms doping case is closed

On Monday, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) decided not to appeal the ruling of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) regarding Iga Świątek, considering her case closed.

The Polish player tested positive for trimetazidine, but it was determined that the result was caused by medication contamination, and the violation was unintentional.
