Tennis: Magda Linette upsets Coco Gauff to reach Miami Open quarterfinals

Poland’s Magda Linette defeated home favourite Coco Gauff to reach the quarterfinals of the Miami Open tennis tournament in the United States.

The 33-year-old Pole, ranked No. 34 in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), upset the third-seeded American 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 16 on Monday.

The win marked her first career victory over a top-10 opponent, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Linette will next face sixth-seeded Jasmine Paolini of Italy for a spot in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Poland’s world No. 2 Iga Świątek is set to play Ukraine's Elina Svitolina for a place in the last eight.

The 2025 Miami Open runs until March 30.
