World champions and Copa America winners Argentina remain at the top of the FIFA rankings, followed by European champions Spain.

World Cup runners-up and Euro 2024 semifinalists France are at No. 3, ahead of Euro 2024 runners-up England in fourth spot.

The new FIFA rankings were released after Poland won its first two 2026 World Cup qualifiers, defeating Lithuania 1-0 and Malta 2-0 at home last month.

The Polish team will now take on Finland in its next World Cup qualifying fixture in Helsinki on June 10.

Poland’s qualifying Group G also includes the Netherlands.

The 2026 World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico. It will feature a total of 48 teams, 16 more than in Qatar 2022.

The Netherlands are ranked sixth worldwide by football's governing body FIFA, while Finland hold the No. 69 spot. Lithuania are No. 143, and Malta sit at No. 169.

Poland were last year relegated to a lower tier of the UEFA Nations League following a 1-2 group-stage loss to Scotland on November 18.

In an earlier setback last year, Poland suffered an early exit from the Euro 2024 tournament, after losing its first two group-stage matches against the Netherlands and Austria and drawing 1-1 with France in its final game.

Poland's lowest place in the world rankings was 78th, in 2013.
