Świątek, who had a first-round bye, dropped the opening set after twice being broken but steadied her serve to edge the second and then raced through the decider, surrendering only two games.

The 22-year-old Pole will next face Czech teenager Linda Nosková, a 7-5 6-1 winner over Argentina’s María Lourdes Carle.

The three-time French Open champion is seeking her first clay-court title of the season after a quarter-final exit in Stuttgart.

Świątek lifted the trophy in Madrid last year but is still chasing a maiden title under new coach Wim Fissette.
