Tennis: Iga Świątek defeats Alexandra Eala to reach Madrid Open third round

Polish tennis player Iga Świątek secured her place in the third round of the Madrid Open with a hard-fought victory over Alexandra Eala.

World No. 2 and defending champion Świątek triumphed 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.

This victory also marked a successful redemption for Świątek, who had previously lost to Eala in the Miami Open quarterfinals.

Świątek will next face Czech No. 31 seed Linda Nosková, who defeated Argentina's María Lourdes Carlé 7-5, 6-1 in the second round.

The match was held on the clay courts in Madrid on April 24, 2025.
