Poland currently sits second in Group G with 13 points from six games, just behind the Netherlands on 16 points. Other teams in the group include Finland, Lithuania, and Malta.
A win for the Dutch could secure their direct qualification to the World Cup, while Poland will be fighting to keep their chances of topping the group alive and to maintain their place in a play-off spot.
In recent qualifiers, Poland have won three of their last five games, drawn once, and lost once. Highlights include a 2-0 win over Malta in March 2025, a 1-2 loss to Finland in June, a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, a 3-1 victory over Finland, and a 2-0 win against Lithuania in September.
Netherlands warned not to underestimate Poland
The Netherlands are just one win away from securing a World Cup berth.
Coach Ronald Koeman has warned that despite his team’s superiority, Poland could benefit from the circumstances at home.
“If Poland wants to win, they will have to attack. We cannot underestimate them,” Koeman said at a press conference.
Dutch newspapers note Poland’s confidence, boosted by a fully fit squad and the arrival of new coach Jan Urban, who debuted with a 1-1 draw in Rotterdam.
The media also highlight the challenge for Poland’s Matti Cash, who will be tasked with marking Dutch star Cody Gakpo.
Algemeen Dagblad draws a historical parallel, recalling a 1993 World Cup qualifying match between the two nations in which a Koeman error allowed Poland to score, though the match ultimately ended in a 3-1 defeat for the Poles.
