European champions Spain remain at the top of the FIFA rankings, followed by world champions Argentina.

World Cup runners-up and Euro 2024 semifinalists France are at No. 3, ahead of Euro 2024 runners-up England in fourth spot.

The new FIFA rankings were released after Poland learned their potential opponents in the group stage of next year’s World Cup in North America if they qualify through the playoffs in March.

Poland will host Albania in a playoff semifinal on March 26. If they win, they will face either Ukraine or Sweden in a playoff final on March 31 for a place at the 2026 World Cup.

If Poland secure a berth through the two-stage playoffs, they will face Tunisia, the Netherlands and Japan in the group stagefollowing draw in Washington on December 5.

The 2026 World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico. It will feature a total of 48 teams, 16 more than in Qatar 2022.

Poland last year suffered an early exit from the Euro 2024 tournament, after losing its first two group-stage matches against the Netherlands and Austria and drawing 1-1 with France in its final game.

Poland's lowest place in the world rankings was 78th, in 2013.
