European indoor champion Jakub Szymański claimed gold in the men’s 60 metres hurdles, the biggest success of his career.
He clocked 7.40 seconds in the final, beating Spain’s Enrique Llopis, who took silver in 7.42, and American Trey Cunningham, who secured bronze in 7.43.
Szymański said the victory made up for disappointment at last year’s championships in Nanjing, where he failed to reach the final.
Natalia Bukowiecka claimed silver in the women’s 400 metres, equaling her Polish record with a time of 50.83 seconds to win her first individual medal at a major indoor championships.
The Czech Republic’s Lurdes Gloria Manuel took gold in 50.76, while the Netherlands’ Lieke Klaver finished third in 51.02.
Bukowiecka, the reigning European outdoor champion, said the medal was her biggest indoor achievement, noting she had previously only reached the podium in relay events.
Pia Skrzyszowska won bronze in the women’s 60 metres hurdles, setting a national record of 7.73 seconds.
“I’ve shown once again that I give my all when it matters most,” she said.
Bahamian Devynne Charlton won the event, equaling her own world record of 7.65 seconds, while Nadine Visser of the Netherlands finished second, 0.005 seconds ahead of Skrzyszowska.
Another bronze for Poland came from the mixed 4x400 metres relay team of Kajetan Duszyński, Anna Gryc, Marcin Karolewski and Justyna Święty-Ersetic.
Poland finished ninth in the medal standings. The United States topped the table, ahead of Britain and Italy.
